Afghan military and security forces have killed 50 militants from the Taliban Islamist movement and Daesh terrorist group in the country's eastern province of Nangarhar, local media reported Thursday.

MOSCOW, (Sputnik) —Afghanistan's TOLOnews broadcaster reported, citing local authorities, that the series of air and ground force operations took place on Wednesday night.

The media outlet added that 18 more Daesh terrorists were injured in the operations.

Afghanistan is in a state of political and social turmoil, with government forces fighting the continuing Taliban insurgency, while other extremist groups, such as Daesh (also known as Islamic State/ISIL/ISIS/IS), outlawed in many countries including the United States and Russia, have also expanded their activities both in the country and in neighboring states.
