MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Saturday, media reported that UN Security Council failed to adopt a resolution condemning coup in Turkey because Egypt blocked the document.
"[Cairo] has no objection to the document, however, suggests just a minor amendment to it," the statement reads.
According to the ministry, Egypt suggested to change the call to respect democratically elected Turkish government in the resolution by the urge to respect democratic and constitutional principles, rule of law.
Late on Friday, Turkish authorities said that an attempted coup took place in the country. The coup was suppressed several hours later. Over 260 people were killed and hundreds were injured during the events, while nearly 3,000 people have already been detained.
