The Iraqi army took back the train station of nearly liberated from the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group Fallujah, a source in the security forces told Sputnik on Monday.

BAGHDAD (Sputnik) — Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi declared the city liberated on Friday as the country’s forces gained control of the city center.

"Iraqi security forces took control of the Fallujah train station," the source said.

However, local media reports on Monday indicated that fighting continued for areas of the city still under the control of the Islamic State, outlawed in many countries worldwide, including Russia and the United States.
