Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar Jaafari blamed London and Paris for undermining peace process in Syria by supporting certain Arab and regional parties and showing lack of effort to stop inflow of terrorists to the war-torn country.

UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — The United Kingdom and France are guilty of doing little to stop the flow of foreigners to Syria and of sabotaging peace negotiations by failing to respect the country’s sovereignty, Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar Jaafari told reporters.

"If those states were keen on the well-being of the Syrians, they would have exerted genuine efforts to stop the flow of terrorists into the country and assisted in reaching a Syrian-led political solution to the crisis, instead of supporting certain Arab and regional parties in an attempt to sabotage the political process in its entirety," Jaafari said on Friday.

Jaafari cited the UN Charter, which he said requires the world body to respect of sovereignty of member states.

"In most cases, those [Security] Council members aim at violating the Syrian sovereignty and to undermine the effective role of the government in delivering humanitarian assistance, in an attempt to demonize the Syrian government," the Syrian envoy explained.

A US-led coalition against the Islamic State, or Daesh, and a separate campaign by Russia are targeting areas controlled by the terrorist organization in an attempt to destroy it.
