Syrian Army Liberates 13 Settlements Near Damascus

Syrian government forces regained control over 13 settlements previously occupied by terrorists in the vicinity of the country's capital of Damascus, Al Mayadeen TV channel reported Friday.

BEIRUT (Sputnik) — According to the TV channel, the Syrian army has driven the terrorists of al-Nusra Front and Ahrar ash-Sham jihadist groups out of eastern Damascus' suburbs.

The broadcaster added that the Syrian Armed Forces had already liberated some 15 square miles, as the army continued its advance.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with several opposition factions and terrorist groups seeking to topple the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
