Egypt's authorities on Thursday declared the highest level of emergency at the country's airports, local media reported citing a security source at the country's interior ministry.

Early Signs Indicate Alleged Bomb Took Down EgyptAir Flight
CAIRO (Sputnik) — According to the Shorouk media outlet, the highest level of emergency was declared to ensure the security of Egyptian airports and adjacent areas following the recent crash of an EgyptAir plane.

Earlier in the day, the EgyptAir flight MS804 disappeared from radar screens over the Mediterranean Sea, ten miles into Egyptian airspace. According to the airline, a total of 66 people were on board the airplane.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the wreckage of the plane had been found near Greece's Karpathos Island.
