US-Led Coalition Targets 17 Daesh Sites in Syria, Iraq

The US Central Command’s Joint Task Force said that US-led coalition hit three Islamic State terrorist sites in Syria and 14 positions in Iraq on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The US-led coalition hit three Daesh terrorist sites in Syria and 14 positions in Iraq on Wednesday, the US Central Command’s Joint Task Force said in a press release.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted three strikes using attack aircraft against Daesh targets. Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 14 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq," the release stated on Thursday.

All three airstrikes in Syria targeted positions near the town of Manbij, striking a Daesh tactical unit, two fighting positions and a mortar system, according to the Central Command.

The strikes in Iraq hit sites near the towns of Mosul, Manbij, al-Baghdadi, Fallujah, Kisik, among others, according to the release. Coalition targets included Daesh fighting positions, tactical units, assembly areas, vehicles, command and control nodes, barracks, supply caches, an oil tanker and an artillery position.

The Daesh is a terrorist group, also known by its acronym Daesh, it is outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries. The infamous group has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq and declared a caliphate on territories under its control.

The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against the Daesh in Syria and Iraq since summer 2014.
