WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the Daesh terrorist group carried out 14 airstrikes on Sunday on the group’s positions and infrastructure in Syria and Iraq, the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release.

“In Syria, coalition military forces conducted six strikes using bomber, fighter, and attack aircraft against Daesh targets,” the release said on Monday. “Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted eight strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using bomber and fighter aircraft against ISIL targets.”

In Syria, the coalition’s airstrikes were waged near four locations, Abu Kamal, At Tanf, Manbij, and Mara. The airstrikes destroyed a Daesh vehicle, a rocket rail, and four fighting positions.

In Iraq, coalition forces targeted sites near five towns, including Kisik, Mosul, and Albu Hayat. The strikes destroyed multiple IS fighting positions, a bunker, a front end loader, an artillery piece, a recoilless rifle, two vehicles, and three assembly areas.

The US-led coalition of nearly 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against the Daesh first in Iraq and later in Syria since 2014 — albeit without the approval of the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.

The Daesh, also known by its Arabic acronym Daesh, is a terrorist organization prohibited in many countries around the world, including the United States and Russia.
