The US-led coalition carried out 22 airstrikes on Tuesday against Daesh on the terrorist group’s positions and infrastructure in Iraq, including 10 strikes on Daesh stronghold of Mosul, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The coalition’s airstrikes were launched near eight Iraqi towns, including Fallujah, Hit, Mosul and Sinjar, and destroyed multiple Daesh assembly areas, fighting positions, six tunnel entrances, two Daesh-used bridges as well as a number of vehicles.

“In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 22 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using ground-attack, fighter, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets,” the release said on Wednesday.

CENTCOM did not detail any actions carried out by the coalition against Daesh in Syria.

The US-led coalition of nearly 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh first in Iraq and later Syria since 2014 — albeit without the approval of the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.

Daesh is a terrorist organization prohibited in many countries around the world, including the United States and Russia.
