PARIS (Sputnik) — Later in the day, the UNSC is set to hold a session on the situation in Aleppo, where military hostilities continue despite a ceasefire. The meeting was proposed by Paris and London and supported by some other members of the UNSC.
"France expects UNSC members to put the necessary pressure on the Syrian regime to make it stop the bombardments of the civilian population and to respect the truce, prescribed by the [UNSC] Resolution 2268," the statement reads.
It was added in the statement that because of the ongoing violence, at least 250 people had been killed and several thousands injured in the last 10 days.
On Tuesday, the command of the Syrian Armed Forces said that militants had boosted the intensity of their offensive on Aleppo amid the ongoing negotiations to include the area in the "silence regime" brokered by Moscow and Washington.
