Two car bombs detonated in southern Iraq on Sunday, killing 20 and injuring dozens, local media reported, citing a source in police.

The explosion reportedly shook the mostly Shiite-populated Samawah city earlier in the day.

"The terrorist attack killed 20 people and left a significant number of injured," Alsumaria television channel quoted the source as saying.

According to the channel, the Muthanna province, where the attack happened, has been a safe region in the past few years.

None of the terrorist groups has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
