"Hostilities in Latakia, around Damascus and in Aleppo must stop… Сertain forces do not want a political settlement, they do not want the process to take root in Syria," Jamil said at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya international news agency.
The Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria said that the Nusra Front terrorist group continues to escalate tensions in the Latakia province and in Aleppo in an attempt to destroy the peace process. On Thursday, the center said that eight violations had been registered in Aleppo and Damascus in the preceding 24 hours.
"There is a clear scenario aiming to obstruct the Geneva [peace] process, to undermine it and to prevent the Syrian people from achieving aspirations tied to the process," Jamil stressed, adding that forces favoring escalation are both local and regional, as well as global.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting numerous opposition groups, including the Western-backed allegedly moderate factions, as well as terrorist formations.
The ceasefire in Syria, mediated by Russia and the United States, took effect on February 27. Terrorist groups are not part of the agreement.
