Syria offers Russia to participate in the exploration and development of oil and gas fields, both on land and offshore, Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader Halqi told Sputnik.

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Syria is "very interested in developing partnerships with friendly nations in the upcoming period, most importantly with Russia," Halqi said.

"The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has strategic projects in the energy sector, particularly within the exploration of oil and gas fields on land and offshore. Cooperation has been proposed to companies from friendly countries, headed by Russia," he added.

Earlier, the Syrian Prime Minister said that Syria and Russia are considering the possibility of setting up joint banks to carry out transactions between the two countries.
