HNC Head Says Ceasefire Violations in Syria Amount to ‘War’

The head of the Saudi-backed Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC), Asaad Zoubi, told Sputnik the ceasefire violations on the ground were tantamount to war.

GENEVA (Sputnik) – On Monday, HNC delegates announced they are suspending their participation in the Geneva talks over the escalating violence in Syria.

"As a military man I will tell you that what is happening now is no violation of the truce, but a threat to it and its complete destruction… It is not a violation, but war," Zoubi said Wednesday.

He estimated the number of violations at over 2,000 and claimed that "territories are occupied, there are massacres and chemical warfare."

Zoubi reiterated the HNC’s position that its delegates would resume negotiations after humanitarian access difficulties are resolved and a political solution to the conflict is found.
