Heavy fighting between terrorists and the Syrian army backed by local militias has resumed in the north of the Latakia province near the Syrian-Turkish border, a source in the militia told RIA Novosti on Monday.

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Syria has been mired in civil war since March 2011, with government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups.

"The fighting started this morning near the town of Kinsabba. Now the battle is ongoing near the village of Kamne. Until noon we heard aviation, the [Syrian] army’s and our artillery were working in the air," the source said.

A US-Russia-brokered ceasefire came into force across Syria on February 27. It does not apply to terrorist groups such as Daesh and al-Nusra Front, both outlawed in Russia.
