"We confirmed to the whole world and personally to the Russian Federation that attacking embassies and the embassy of the Russian Federation in particular is not our method, because our religion commands us to not in any way interfere with ambassadors. Ambassadors are untouchable, it is a historical concept, the religious and legal concept," Alloush said.

He added that Russia should search for those who attacked its embassy, adding that he considers Syrian President Bashar Assad to be responsible.

"There are positions of his army on the Jabal Qasiyun mountain. They [Russia] need to learn the type of projectile and the angle under which it hit the embassy and they can know exactly who fired at the Russian Embassy. In addition, they have a satellite that can exactly determine from where the shell was fired," Alloush said.

The Russian Embassy in Damascus came under mortar fire several times in 2015. Moscow considers the shellings to be terrorist acts.
