The Syrian army, in cooperation with patriotic militias, is repulsing Daesh attack on the strategically important road near the city of Aleppo, a source in the people’s militia told RIA Novosti Thursday.

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, militants reportedly blocked the road near Aleppo and have since been shelling bypassing cars.

"Terrorists are attacking the road in the vicinity of the town of Khanaser on Aleppo's 'road of life,'" the source said.

Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting numerous opposition and terrorist groups, including the Daesh, which is outlawed in Russia and the United Kingdom among others.

The cessation of hostilities in Syria took effect on February 27 to facilitate humanitarian access to all besieged areas in the country, among other goals. The ceasefire does no apply to the terrorist groups operating in the country.
