MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The model of the Federation of Northern Syria that was declared by the Syrian Kurds in March was positively taken in the European society, a European representative of the Foundation of Free Women of Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan), said Thursday.
"There was a positive response from the European countries and European society on this federation model. They actively support it," Meike Nack told reporters.
At a constituent conference in the Arab republic's Hasakah province on March 17, the Syrian Kurds announced the creation of the so-called Federal Democratic System of Rojava and Northern Syria. Some 200 delegates from Syria’s north, home to a predominantly Kurdish population, attended the conference.
The Kurds are a Middle Eastern ethnic group with the population of some 30-35 million living mainly in Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria.
