Bashar Assad told Sputnik that he did not sign any documents during his last meeting with Vladimir Putin.

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Syrian President Bashar Assad told Sputnik that no documents were signed during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin last fall.

"That visit was made under special circumstances. I arrived less than two weeks after Russia began supporting the Syrian army. Of course, this issue was on the agenda of the visit. The main topic was our common vision — mine and President Putin’s – of the next stage of the fight against terrorism and political work. The major focus of the visit was given to these topics. There were no agreements, but a process of consultations and dialogue," Assad said.

According to the Syrian leader, the talks mainly revolved around two issues.

"Firstly, the military operation, which had begun at the time, and as a consequence, the need to strike a blow at terrorism. Secondly, we focused on how we could use the military operation to support the political process. President Putin's questions were about the same points you have just asked me. That is our perception of the political process, which was supposed to begin at that time in Geneva or in some other place. We discussed only these subjects during the visit," he said.
