MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Broadcasting was suspended, but nobody was hurt in the Wednesday incident, according to the journalists one of whom said that the gunmen could be supporters of the UN-backed unity government.
The prime minister of Libya’s UN-backed Government of National Accord, Fayez Serraj, arrived in Tripoli on Wednesday. Serraj had to travel by sea from Tunisia as Libya’s airspace was reportedly blocked by the Tripoli-based government.
Libya has been in a state of turmoil for years after the Arab Spring protests in early 2011 led to a civil war and the overthrow of long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi.
In December, Libya’s rival governments (the internationally-recognized Council of Deputies based in Tobruk and the Tripoli-based General National Congress) agreed to create a Government of National Accord and end the political struggle.
