US-Led Coalition Against Daesh Carries Out 13 Airstrikes in Iraq, Syria

The US-led coalition attacked Daesh terrorists with two airstrikes in Syria and 11 in Iraq.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against Daesh conducted 13 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq on Thursday hitting the groups’ personnel and infrastructure, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted two strikes using attack aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets," the release stated on Friday. "Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 11 strikes coordinated with and in support of the government of Iraq using attack and fighter aircraft against ISIL targets."

Two coalition airstrikes near two Syrian cities, Al Hawl and Mara, destroyed multiple Daesh fighting positions and a tactical unit, according to CENTCOM.

The US-led coalition also conducted 11 airstrikes near eight Iraqi cities to the north and west of Baghdad, including Haditha and Mosul. The strikes destroyed multiple Daesh tactical units, as well as staging and assembly areas, among other targets.

Daesh is a designated terrorist group outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries. The infamous group has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq and declared a caliphate on territories under its control.
