March Intra-Syrian Talks Coincide With Two Major Steps Taken by Russia
17:51 GMT 24.03.2016 (Updated: 18:10 GMT 24.03.2016) UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said that Russia announced withdrawal same day as the March round of intra-Syrian talks started and the US General Secretary John Kerry meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov happened at the last day of negotiations.
GENEVA (Sputnik) — The March round of the intra-Syrian talks started and ended at the same time Russia took political steps important for the Syrian reconciliation, UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said Thursday.
"Russia announced withdrawal same day as the talks started. And today they are closing with an important meeting in Moscow perhaps not by coincidence too," de Mistura told reporters.
