Large Oil Field Discovered in Western Kuwait

A new large oil and gas field, which has the potential to replenish Kuwait's strategic reserves of hydrocarbons, has been discovered in the western part of the country, Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait Oil Company Jamal Abdulaziz Jaafar said Thursday.

DUBAI (Sputnik) — These reserves are expected to "enrich the Kuwaiti oil reserves and enable the country pursue crude oil production for decades to come," he added.

"[The Al-Jathatheel field] is forecast to substantially add to the State's output productivity and reserves of light oil and gas," Jaafar was quoted as saying by the KUNA news agency.

According to him, the first exploration results look very promising and speak for the field's high economic feasibility.

Kuwait is a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and ranks sixth in the cartel in terms of oil production.
