Russian and US military from Syrian ceasefire monitoring centers at the Russian Hmeymim airbase and in Amman respectively have discussed truce violations in Syria’s Latakia and Hama provinces, the Russian Defense Ministry said Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the statement, terrorists continued attempts to undermine the peace process in Syria. It cited witness reports from residents of the Hama province who observed Islamist troops controlled by al-Nusra Front terror group on the move in the region’s northwest. The military said this was a sign that jihadists were mounting an offensive.

"Negotiations via phone conference call were held between the command of the Russian Reconciliation Center (Hmeymim) and the US Coordination Center (Amman). The sides voiced concern over cessation of hostilities breaches in the provinces of Latakia and Hama," the Russian center said in a bulletin published on the Defense Ministry’s website.

According to the statement, "terrorists keep trying to undermine the peace process in Syria. According to data submitted to the Russian Reconciliation Center by residents of the Hama province, armed forces loyal to the Nusra Front are gathering in the northwestern part of this province. Significant concentration of these forces signals that militants could be preparing for an offensive."

The truce was violated five times in the past 24 hours – twice in Latakia and Aleppo and once in Hama, according to the Defense Ministry’s estimates. During the same period, 5.5 tonnes of humanitarian assistance – food and bottled water – was delivered to residents in the villages of Kafr Nan and Tesnin in the Homs province.
