WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On February 22, Russia and the United States reached an agreement on cessation of hostilities in Syria, which took effect five days later. Despite intermittent violations, the cessation of hostilities has been described as largely holding.
“I am not aware of any of these strikes that technically violated the cessation of hostilities. Again, most of the airstrikes I was asked about have been focused on ISIL [the Islamic State], which is not part of the terms of the cessation.”
Cook also claimed during the briefing that Russia has continued to engage in airstrikes in Syria after Moscow announced the withdrawal of its air group from the country.
