Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations Danny Danon has demanded that the United Nations criticize the Tehran's recent missile tests, local media reported Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations Danny Danon called for the UN to condemn Tehran's recent missile tests, local media reported Sunday.

Earlier this week, Iranian state media reported that the country’s Revolutionary Guard Corps had carried out a ballistic missile launch as one of the last steps in testing the capabilities of Iranian-produced missiles.

According to the Arutz Sheva news network, Danon sent a letter to the UN Security Council (UNSC), which called on its members to condemn the missile tests.

On July 14, 2015, the P5+1 countries — the United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom plus Germany — reached a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran to ensure the peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

Following the adoption of the JCPOA, the UNSC passed Resolution 2231, which prohibits Iran from engaging in activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons, among other issues.

It's doubtful that Israel's condemnation will have any effect on Iran's defense policy. In April 2015, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif, while attending a Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty (NPT) conference at the United Nations, told a Washington Post correspondent "It’s laughable that [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu has become everybody’s nonproliferation guru. He is sitting on 400 nuclear warheads, nuclear warheads that have been acquired in violation of the NPT."
