Iraqi Forces Prevent Daesh Attack on Western Baghdad Suburbs
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – At least eight security forces were killed in car bomb attacks in Abu Ghraib, on the western edges of Baghdad, two days after Iraqi forces repelled Islamist attacks in the area, media reported late Monday.

The casualties less than 20 miles west of the Iraqi capital’s center, as reported by Iran’s Press TV broadcaster, come after Iraqi command said on Sunday it stopped Daesh (a terrorist group also known as ISIL, ISIS and the Islamic State) attempt to attack two areas less than 10 miles west of Abu Ghraib.

The latest attack follows reports of six Shiite militia leaders killed in Muqdadiyah, some 50 miles northeast of Baghdad.

Hours earlier, a suicide bomber killed 40 to 60 people and injured 100 in a Shiite funeral in the eastern province of Diyala. IS claimed responsibility for the attack.

On Sunday, up to 80 people died in two bombing attacks in Baghdad’s Sadr City district.
