Russia’s ceasefire monitoring center at the Hmeymim air base in Latakia on Saturday registered a mortar attack by terrorists on Damascus residential areas, the head of the center said.

LATAKIA (Sputnik) — The districts of Jobar, Karaj Abasin, Mamunia, and Maysaloun were attacked, Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko said.

"Today, on February 27, Russian officers from the group of mediators at the reconciliation center in Syria registered a shelling by terrorists of residential areas in the city of Damascus," Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko told reporters.

"The shelling of residential quarters took place from 6:25 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on February 27. A total of 21 mortar rounds reportedly burst," the Russian general said.

Lt. Gen. Kuralenko added that US forces at the US-run monitoring center in the Jordanian capital of Amman were informed about the attack.
