MOSCOW (Sputnik) — It will take years to rebuild what was destroyed by terrorists in Syria, President Bashar Assad’s adviser Bouthaina Shaaban said Saturday.

A ceasefire, agreed by Russia and the United States on Monday, came into effect overnight and has been upheld by 97 militant groups, according to the UN Syrian envoy. UN-listed terrorist groups are not part of the arrangement.

"We are in for a colossal work. It will take years and yeas to rebuild what terrorists have destroyed," Shaaban said in a televised interview on Russia’s Vesti v Subbotu weekly news program.
