President Bashar Assad’s adviser Bouthaina Shaaban said that it will take years and yeas to rebuild what terrorists have destroyed in Syria.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — It will take years to rebuild what was destroyed by terrorists in Syria, President Bashar Assad’s adviser Bouthaina Shaaban said Saturday.

A ceasefire, agreed by Russia and the United States on Monday, came into effect overnight and has been upheld by 97 militant groups, according to the UN Syrian envoy. UN-listed terrorist groups are not part of the arrangement.

"We are in for a colossal work. It will take years and yeas to rebuild what terrorists have destroyed," Shaaban said in a televised interview on Russia’s Vesti v Subbotu weekly news program.

The Syrian presidential aide said she believed that the Syrian people were up to this task.

The Syrian government confirmed last Tuesday it was ready to halt military actions in accordance with the Russia-US deal. Some opposition groups were initially skeptical about the ceasefire but eventually signed up to it.
