WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Toner called the attacks “barbaric,” according to the statement, and he added, “We wish a speedy recovery to the wounded and express condolences to the victims.‎

Daesh claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on Sunday that killed more than 120 people, according to Syria’s state-run SANA news agency.

Near a Shia Muslim shrine on the outskirts of the capital, Damascus, three bombers killed at least 83 people and injured 178 others, the report said.

In addition, two car bombs killed 39 people in the Alawite neighborhood in central Homs.

The Alawite-led government of Syrian President Bashar Assad, backed by Russian air strikes, has gone on the offensive against Daesh, cutting off supply routes and retaking territory controlled by the terror group.
