MOSCOW/TEL AVIV (Sputnik) – Police at one of seven main entrances to Jerusalem’s Old City prevented another stabbing attack by a Palestinian youth, Israeli media reported Saturday.
Officers restrained a suspicious youth near Damascus Gate with the aid of a police dog after the suspect drew a knife and tried to attack them, the Haaretz publication cited a Jerusalem police spokesperson as saying.
The foiled attack comes a day after a 20-year-old Palestinian was killed outside the gate after stabbing and wounding two police officers.
This week’s report published by the Shin Bet Israeli security agency estimated that 37 out of the 228 total attacks on Israelis took place in Jerusalem.
Nearly three-quarters of all assailants were aged between 16 and 25, according to Shin Bet.
