Saudi-Formed Syrian Opposition Undecided Over Honoring Ceasefire
The High Negotiations Committee (HNC), Syrian opposition group formed in Saudi Arabia will continue to discuss the issue of participation in the intra-Syrian talks between the opposition groups, according to spokesman.
DUBAI (Sputnik) – The Syrian opposition group formed in Saudi Arabia has not yet decided whether it would take part in a cessation of hostilities reached between Russia and the United States in Geneva, the High Negotiations Committee (HNC) spokesman said Saturday.
20 February 2016, 11:54 GMT
A source in the Moscow-Cairo opposition group told RIA Novosti earlier in the day that Moscow and Washington had prepared a document on the "cessation of hostilities" to take effect a week after its approval.
"We are going to meet on Monday and will continue to discuss the issue of participation in the reconciliation between the opposition groups," Riyad Naasan Agha told RIA Novosti.
The latest decision follows a series of meetings among stakeholders to the Syrian conflict, including the February 11 International Syria Support Group (ISSG) that adopted a communique calling for a cessation hostilities and swift humanitarian access to all besieged areas.
