A Saudi military spokesman has confirmed that Riyadh is prepared to join any US-led ground operations to fight Daesh, also known as IS/Islamic State, in Syria, if such operations are approved by the coalition.

"The kingdom is ready to participate in any ground operations that the coalition (against Islamic State) may agree to carry out in Syria," Brigadier General Ahmed Asseri told al-Arabiya TV. Asseri is also the spokesman for the Saudi-led Arab coalition in Yemen.

"If there was a consensus from the leadership of the coalition, the kingdom is willing to participate in these efforts because we believe that aerial operations are not the ideal solution and there must be a twin mix of aerial and ground operations," Asseri added.

Asked about the report, US State Department spokesman John Kirby said that the coalition is generally welcome to its partners increasing support in the fight against Daesh, but could not comment specifically on Asseri's comments.

"I would not want to comment specifically on this until we've had a chance to review it," he said.

The US-led coalition has conducted airstrikes against Daesh since September of 2014, but the campaign has done little to stymie the terrorist group's influence. While President Obama has repeatedly stated that he will not place additional boots on the ground in the Middle East, US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter has indicated that the Pentagon may be reconsidering that policy.

By comparison, the Russian air campaign that started last September has carried out thousands of sorties and has already proven effective against Daesh. Working at the behest of the legitimate government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Russian air support and Syrian ground troops are beating back the terrorist group.

Russia must immediately move in an armored brigade to the Syrian Turkish border to stop the impending Turkish invasion aimed to partition Syria.

This is a big move for NATO, actually going to war to defend and protect terrorists.

vendor, If it's a comment that is related to a comment already made, I'll reply to myself too. It keeps from having one huge comment.

Partitioning was always the US and co-conspirators objective, those who support partitioning on this site who for months have played the fiddle! and the fool are now clearly exposed.
There salary is paid for by Government sources to infiltrate sites and pretend to be objective whilst often trivialising important discussions to dilute important information being shared. The agenda of partitioning may eventuate but not on the scale or the geography necessary to support all the objectives. The final solution will be negotiated as no one really wants to engage in full out war. Both sides clearly realise the likely outcome.

ivanwa88, Good comment, but I disagree about war. I think NATO and its allies have made it clear that they stop at nothing. There are no limits. It's a game of chicken with them and they blame the guy who doesn't get out of the way for WWIII.

jas lots of pressure on Obama from likes of Saudi who have paid trillions in bonds to secure US protection. This is Waterloo Saudi realises they gain there objectives Now! or miss out, which for them considering there massive investment would be a complete and utter nightmare. US is playing all sides at the moment because the chickens have come home to roost. Obama is critically aware America must do a massive u turn real soon, all this talk of triple budgets is shear rhetoric designed to calm everyone its business as usual. Well folks! mark my words it is not! Obama is crossing everything he's got to get to the end of his term without having to let out the bath water. The next incumbent will without a doubt inherit the poison chalice. 2017 is crunch year for US its will be start of vacating bases or at least trying to get Europe etc to take them over! By 2020 there will only be 100 bases worldwide. With military budget slashed by 50%. Currency effects of countries trading in their own money will have really kicked in by then. They have to start pulling back now! or just become a third world nation.

      How true.
I hope that 100.000 get killed if they try.

jas i'm implying Saudi might make a suicide charge out of shear anger in the desperate hope US will send in 7th Cavalry! but that's highly unlikely. They might as well dig up poor old George and mount him on a horse and send him in at a brisk gallop.

Since when, is it acceptable for a country to INVADE another country under the guise of fighting the terrorists that they have been supporting so far ?????
And the U.N is simply going to sit on it's hands and say nothing about this ?
The U.S. Turkey, nor the Arab nations have got any business ILLEGALY INVADING another nation to STEAL it's land and resources.
The general World population cant see the criminalty in this behavior ???? We are all doomed, so much for the yanks adhering to the "Rule Of Law". I wonder which law is allowing this invasion ?

Korz53, that is not how it must be done. It must be backed by tactical and strategical nukes. To be believed, bring tactical nukes in Syria and openly warn Turkey, Saudi and who other than Izrael
    • innocappuccinnoin reply toKorz53(Show commentHide comment)
Korz53, as you keep repeating trying to make others believe that(yours) is the only to be considered... i will repeat myself: S-400 is to be backed with tactical and strategical nukes. That's way S-400 are INFAILIBLE now! You may still believe it is not so? OK, west would be delighted that Saudi and Turkey will bit the dust. NO, IZRAEL is to be hit. full salvo of Kalibr would with classical warheads would destroy all electricity production/distribution in Izrael. The second salvo with nukes on wait for the NATO announce of reconsideration on their strategic goals
