Democrats on the US House of Representatives Select Committee on Benghazi have wasted $2 million in taxpayer money by obstructing the investigation of the 2012 terrorist attacks on the US diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, Committee’s Press Secretary Matt Wolking stated in a press release on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Wolking noted that spending by Democrats has reached one-third of the Committee’s total cost, or $2 million.

"While Democrats on the Benghazi Committee have made a big show of pretending to care about the cost of this investigation, they’ve made zero meaningful contributions and spent virtually all of their time and effort on undermining and obstructing the committee’s work, directly contributing to its length and cost," the press release stated.

New Clinton Emails ‘Potential Gamechanger’ in Benghazi Probe
In September 2012, US Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and three other government employees were killed in a terrorist attack on the US diplomatic compound in Benghazi.

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was called by the Select Committee to testify on her role and knowledge of the attacks amid widespread criticism on how she handled the incident. The Committee Democrats have been defending Clinton.

"Of course, their motivations are obvious: they’ve endorsed the former secretary of state for president, and will no doubt continue to act as a full-fledged arm of her campaign, wasting taxpayer dollars on everything but getting answers," the press release pointed out.

Republican lawmakers claim the White House and State Department did not send military back-up to the besieged diplomats in Benghazi to avoid publicly admitting the attack was carried by al-Qaida-backed terrorists. The Obama administration had said previously it decimated the terrorist network by killing its leader Osama bin Laden in 2011.
