Qadri Jamil, one of the leaders of Syria’s parliamentary opposition urges Ban Ki-moon to accelerate ‘Geneva-3’ and to revise issues with forming the Syrian opposition delegation to break the deadlock of ‘Geneva-2.’

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – One of the leaders of Syria’s parliamentary opposition called on the United Nations on Monday to speed up the launch of a postponed dialogue between Syrian government and opposition members.

"We urge Ban Ki-moon to accelerate ‘Geneva-3’ and to revise issues with forming the Syrian opposition delegation to break the deadlock of ‘Geneva-2’," Qadri Jamil told reporters at the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.

Jamil, whose Popular Front for Change and Liberation holds five seats in the Syrian legislature, said UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura was responsible for announcing the start of first intra-Syria talks.

The dialogue negotiated by world and regional powers late last year has been stalled over disagreement between stakeholders over the makeup of a representative list of Syrian opposition members forged in Moscow, Cairo and Riyadh.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US State Secretary John Kerry, who held on Monday one of a number of phone talks in the run-up to the much-anticipated negotiations, urged de Mistura to announce the date of the UN-sponsored talks promptly.
