The United States and Turkey are ready to use a military solution against Daesh (Islamic State) in Syria if the Syrian government and various rebel factions fail to find a political solution in the upcoming peace talks in Geneva, according to US Vice President Joe Biden.

In a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Ankara, Biden said that he'd prefer a political solution to the Syrian crisis, but if diplomatic measures won't work then the United States would pursue a military solution.

"We do know it would better if we can reach a political solution but we are prepared… If that's not possible, to have a military to this operation in taking out Daesh," Biden said during a news conference, as cited by Reuters.

After Biden's speech, the White House issued a statement clarifying that when Biden mentioned a military operation in Syria, he was speaking exclusively about the anti-Daesh campaign, not the Syrian government or anyone else.

"The Vice President was making the point that even as we search for a political solution to the broader Syrian civil war, we are simultaneously pursuing a military solution against Daesh. There is no change in US policy," the statement said.

Meanwhile, the intra-Syria peace talks are expected to take place at the end of this month. Initially, the negotiations were set for January 25, but later were postponed for a few days for practical reasons. The much-anticipated talks between the Syrian government and various opposition factions will take place in the Swiss city of Geneva.

Biden and Davutoglu also discussed how the United States and Turkey could support Syrian rebels who are fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

If that's the case then it might be bad news for Washington, as everyone remembers how miserably the US program of training "moderate" Syrian rebels failed not long ago.

At the same time, Washington and Ankara's plan to support Syrian rebels, some of whom in the past joined the ranks of terrorist organizations, such as al-Nusra Front, could mean that the Syrian Civil War would continue.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting opposition factions and militant groups, such as Daesh and al-Nusra Front.

The United States is leading the coalition of over 60 countries conducting airstrikes against the terrorist group both in Syria and Iraq. Russia is conducting its own air campaign in Syria at the request of the Syrian government.

vendor, I didn't say that this has to be solved just diplomatically but if there comes a day to start a fight about this then let those on top to respond .Neither you or me are competent to say what should be done in what way or when.We can just give our opinion here and comment about it but who are we to judge others who have more experience in this maters then us.Everyone has his own opinion but reading some of your comment i came to the conclusion that some of you go where the wind blows one time you support Putin and Russia when it satisfies your egos and now it seems to me like you are against him that just goes to show how are we like people these days.

Skywalker, sorry to disappoint but I do have right to change or form my opinion as I see fit. I also do not need to be loyal to a politician if I do not want to. I also have the right to express an opinion as any other human and to say that we know nothing or cannot influence anything well, do not forget it is the voters that have elected them, and if they screw it up they won't be voted in again. So, those who vote have opinions and are informed enough to vote the way they like. In contrast to them at least I proudly can say that Mexico is not Morocco and that Mexico is not in Africa but in Asia :)

vendor, again you misunderstand me you have to right to change your opinion and to vote for who ever you want but when it comes to war where peoples lives are in question who are we do give the order to start a war just like that are u going to be held responsible for the people who will die there i don't think so that was my point

Skywalker, OK understood. I take a great pleasure and pride in hand-balling it to someone else as I would not make such a decision myself nor would I ever be ready to take up on the responsibility of such a decision. We leave it to the bad people to make these decisions.

vendor, that was just my opinion not to offend anyone but you are right when you say only bad people can do that in this case Biden, Erdogan and Other western leaders who started all this mess in the first place.who will benefit if war starts not the ordinary people but the bankers neocons who run all from behind the curtains and want this war to happen so their plan for NWO or one world government can come true. Russia doesn't want to start a war but to prevent it and i think till now Russia is playing very well i can only hope that this war never happens.

Skywalker, just my opinion, if I may. I think the world leaders must uphold the globally accepted values and laws diplomatically and no matter of the direction (attack or defend) this war is happening already and has not been prevented when all sides should have dropped the military solution as the only solution and in 2012 they should have started the diplomatic process. Yes, Assad wanted it while the Americans said - Assad must go. Evidently this war is a result of the American failed attempts to remove him but we all know that not one person in the US government will ever be charged or tried for this. If Kissinger was never charged for his crimes all of the war crimes after him are almost insignificant in comparison. But do not forget, in any war in any country and under any leadership it takes two sides to fight it and both of them are wrong, even if one side is defending only. There are always ways. One needs to find them especially if they are leaders of their countries. That's my opinion on that subject. :)

vendor, i agree with you and we will see how all this plays out but my hope and support is with Russia and it's leadership as it has proven so far to have the moral high ground. And yes there are always ways to find a peaceful solution if there is a will for that but i don't think that that is possible under the current leadership of the USA. I can just hope that thing wont escalate to a full war no one wants that not even the warmongering America.

ivanwa88, And we all know we can trust White House statements as being true. *sarcasm* I think Biden said exactly what he was supposed to say and that he was saying Assad is gone one way or another and that NATO refuses to accept anything less than 110% of its objectives..
