DUBAI (Sputnik) – The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has handed Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Reza Fayyaz a note of protest following attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran, local media reported Sunday.

On Saturday, demonstrators protesting in Iran against the execution of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr by Riyadh attacked the Saudi embassy in capital Tehran and the consulate in the city of Mashhad.

"These actions are in violation of international laws and norms," the note said, as quoted by the Khaleej Times newspaper.

According to the document, "Iran's interference undermines attempts to build a relationship of trust between Iran and other countries of the region."
