Earlier in the day, Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministry announced that it had executed 47 people convicted of terrorism, including Shiite preacher Nimr al-Nimr.
"This is an inhumane act that proves the impotence of human rights and democracy in Saudi Arabia. It will have consequences, and the Muslim community will not tolerate such a crime," Rahimpur said.
On behalf of Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Rahimpur expressed condolences to all Muslims in connection with the execution of the cleric and 46 others.
According to the official, charges against the prominent cleric were fabricated from the beginning.
Al-Nimr was arrested by the Saudi authorities in 2012 during protests in the east of the country. In 2014, he was sentenced to death on charges of inciting hatred, disobedience to the king and the establishment of a terrorist cell with the aim to attack law enforcement personnel.
Earlier on Saturday, senior Iranian Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, Lebanon's Supreme Islamic Shiite Council and Yemen's Houthi movement condemned the cleric’s execution.
