WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against Daesh (Islamic State) launched 31 airstrikes against the terrorist group positions in Syria and in Iraq, Combined Joint Task Force — Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release on Tuesday.
“In Syria, coalition military forces conducted nine strikes using attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft,” the release said. “In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 22 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using fighter, attack, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets.”
In Iraq, the airstrikes were concentrated near eight cities, including Ramadi and Mosul. Monday’s airstrikes there destroyed multiple Daesh vehicles fighting positions, one tunnel, two tunnel entrances, a trench system, three command and control nodes as well as wounded two Daesh fighters.
The US-led coalition of some 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes against Daesh in Iraq since August 2014 and in Syria since September 2014, but without the approval of the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.
Daesh is a designated terrorist organization that is outlawed in numerous countries, including in Russia.
