"Efforts for a political solution to the crisis are linked to defeating terrorism, which is important for the whole world," Muallem said during a joint press conference with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting against numerous opposition factions and extremist groups, such as the Daesh, also known as ISIL/The Islamic State terrorist group, which is prohibited in a host of countries, including Russia.
Earlier this month, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution outlining a peace process for Syria. The resolution supports a ceasefire in Syria and urges all parties to the Syrian conflict to allow humanitarian agencies to deliver aid to those in need.
