BERLIN (Sputnik) – On Wednesday, the German armed forces launched an anti-terror operation in Syria, with a German aerial refueling jet twice providing in-flight refueling to fighter jets conducting airstrikes against Daesh, also known as ISIL/The Islamic State positions.
According to the Bild newspaper, BND officers visit Damascus on a regular basis to meet with their Syrian counterparts to exchange information on combating terrorism, as well to ensure channels of communication with Damascus in the event of a German plane being shot down or shelled over Syria.
The BND agency is preparing to establish a so-called field station in Syria, which is likely to be located at the currently closed German embassy, the media outlet reported. The German government is set to make a final decision on the issue in January.
