A soldier from the United Arab Emirates was killed during the Saudi Arabia-led coalition's operations in Yemeni central province of Taiz, the General Command of the UAE Armed Forces said Monday.

DUBAI (Sputnik) — The soldier was killed while participating in the operation aiming to liberate a city from the Houthi rebels, supported by army units loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the General Command said, according to UAE state news agency WAM.

Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government forces and Shiite Houthi rebels, the country’s main opposition faction.

Since late March, a Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen at President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi's request.
