US-Led Coalition Welcomes Germany’s Decision to Expand Anti-Daesh Campaign

Earlier on Friday, Germany’s parliament approved a military campaign against Daesh (also known as ISIL) that is initially planned to extend through December 31, 2016, and will cost more than $145 million. The decision now needs to be approved by the country’s Bundesrat which comprises of representatives from Germany’s 16 federal regions.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against Daesh welcomes the German government's decision to increase its input to the campaign against the terrorist group, US Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesperson Col. Patrick Ryder said via Twitter on Friday.

"The Coalition also welcomes Germany’s decision to expand their contributions to the fight against ISIL [Daesh]," Ryder tweeted.

On Wednesday, the United Kingdom Parliament also voted in favor of extending the country’s airstrikes against Daesh, currently carried out in Iraq, to Syria.

"UK, Germany key partners since the Coalition formed last year and their commitment demonstrates the strength of our military coalition," Ryder added.

US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter commended the United Kingdom’s and Germany’s efforts against Daesh.
