"An exchange of opinions on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa took place, with a focus on the development of the situation in Iraq and Syria," the statement reads.
The sides also discussed some practical questions concerning Russia-Arab League cooperation, including within the framework of preparations to hold the third ministerial session of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum in Moscow.
The meeting took place at Mashta's request.
Vast territories of Syria and Iraq are currently being controlled by the Daesh, also known as ISIL/The Islamic State radical terrorist group, which is trying to expand its influence and fighting against official authorities of these countries. Russia has outlawed Daesh on its territory, classifying it a terrorist organization.
