MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The prime minister reaffirmed that coordination between Russia and Israel is necessary to avoid conflict situations in Syria.
"We act in Syria from time to time to prevent the emergence of a new front that Iran is trying to create against us in the Golan [Heights]. Of course, we are also working to prevent particularly dangerous weapons from Syria from entering Lebanon and we will continue to do so," Netanyahu said at a press conference.
Russian Aerospace Forces commenced precision airstrikes in Syria against Islamic State (IS, or Daesh in Arab world), a group that is outlawed in Russia, on September 30, following a request from Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The urgent need to coordinate the military actions of states fighting against IS came to the fore after Turkey downed a Russian Su-24 warplane over Syria due to an alleged violation of Turkish airspace.
