Turkey has increased its deliveries of supplies and financial support to militant groups fighting the legitimate government in Syria, Syrian President Bashar Assad said on Sunday, in a meeting with Iranian politician Ali Akbar Velajati, DWN reports.
On Saturday, the Syrian army reported that Turkey has increased deliveries of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment to terrorist groups in Syria, since Syrian government forces began their most recent offensive against them.
Velajati, a former Iranian Foreign Minister and adviser to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, replied that Iran, which contributes ground troops to the government's fight against terrorism, "will continue to support Syria, because the fight against terrorism in the region and the world is crucial."
President Assad also said that the defeat of militant rebel groups is a prerequisite for the success of the political solution that Syrians will decide on, local media reported.
