The majority of Thursday's airstrikes carried out by the US-led coalition in Iraq targeted ISIL fighting positions in Sinjar, the Iraqi town that Kurdish Peshmerga reportedly liberated from the Islamic State's control earlier on Friday.

Putin: Russia Expected Closer Coordination With US Coalition in Syria
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against ISIL carried out 26 airstrikes against terrorist targets in Syria and Iraq, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a Friday press release.

“In Syria, coalition military forces conducted eight strikes…Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 18 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq,” the release said.

In Syria, the coalition airstrikes hit ISIL targets near the cities of Hawl and Raqqa on Thursday, striking seven tactical units, four fighting positions, two vehicles and a mortar position.
