The US-led coalition against ISIL has launched 8 airstrikes in Syria, the US Central Command said in a release on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Airstrikes near the Syrian town of Hawl on Wednesday destroyed eight ISIL tactical units, four buildings and a fighter, the release said.

“In Syria, coalition military forces conducted eight strikes using fighter, attack, and remotely piloted aircraft,” the Central Command said.

“Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 40 strikes.”

In Iraq, Wednesday’s airstrikes eliminated 14 ISIL tactical units, 18 staging areas, five buildings, 27 fighting positions, four vehicles and six assembly areas, according to the Central Command.

Russia continues to carry out airstrikes in Syria in coordination with the Syrian government. The Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday that its aircraft had carried out 85 sorties in the past two days, hitting 277 terrorist targets in seven Syrian provinces.
