The US-led coalition against the Islamic State conducted 17 airstrikes in Iraq and intensified its actions in Syria, carrying out 10 airstrikes after a month-long slowdown in attacks, according to a US Central Command press release issued on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The airstrikes carried out near four Syrian cities, including al-Hasakah and Raqqah, on Sunday, hit ISIL tactical units, vehicles and wounded several fighters, the Central Command said.

“In Syria, coalition military forces conducted 10 strikes using fighter, attack, and remotely piloted aircraft,” the release said. “Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 17 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq.”

The coalition conducted 17 airstrikes near eight Iraqi cities to the north and west of Baghdad, including Ramadi and Mosul. The strikes hit ISIL fighting positions, tactical vehicles and units as well as other infrastructure targets.

Meanwhile, Russia has also continued its airstrikes campaign against terrorist groups in Syria. The Russian Defense Ministry said Monday that over the past two days Russian jets had carried out 131 sorties in Syria, hitting 237 terrorist targets.
