MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The group added that the alliance included representatives from YPG, and the Kurdish Women's Protection Units (YPJ), as well as fighters from Burkan al-Furat and smaller opposition groups.
"The sensitive stage through which our country Syria [is passing], and rapid changes on the military and political arenas require a united national military power for all Syrians, including Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians and all others living in the country," the statement published on the YPG Facebook page reads.
ISIL has captured large areas in Syria and Iraq. Its advance is being countered by bombing campaigns by both a US-led coalition and by Russia following a request from Syrian President Bashar Assad on September 30. On the ground, the Syrian army loyal to Assad, opposition factions and the Kurds are also fighting Islamic State militants.
